Expression of microRNA miR-124a in the developing mouse embryo
"MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small (22nt) non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression by base pairing to target mRNAs. miRNAs are synthesized by RNA polymerase II as longer precursors that are processed by the ribonucleases Drosha and Dicer. Shown is a whole mount in-situ hybridization in which a probe for miR-124a RNA was used to reveal the expression pattern of the precursor in a 11.5 post-conception embryo (E 11.5). Strong staining was observed in the developing spinal cord, dorsal root ganglia, and brain."
