Undergraduate Summer Internship Program In partnership with Harvard University's Senior Vice Provost Office for Faculty Development and Diversity and the Leadership Alliance Consortium, the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology offers a 10-week summer internship as part of its Molecules, Cells and Organisms Training Program. The internship introduces students to the diverse research interests of the MCO faculty and exposes them to the wide variety of techniques and experimental approaches to important questions at the cutting edge of biology today. MCO faculty includes members of the departments of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, and Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology. Each summer well-qualified interns are placed in MCO faculty labs and take part in current research projects, attend weekly faculty lectures, work with current MCO graduate students as peer mentors, and take part in joint field trips with other Harvard summer programs. Working with current MCO graduate students helps interns not only learn important skills and techniques in the lab setting, but helps them understand what research and campus life is like for a graduate student in the MCO PhD training program at Harvard. Students in the program live in Harvard undergraduate student housing. The program provides all research-related expenses, room and board, travel to and from the program, as well as a stipend. This internship is offered for currently-enrolled undergraduates who are considering PhD careers in the life sciences and who have already had at least one upper-level course in their field of study, although prior research experience is not a prerequisite.. US citizenship or permanent residency is required.
