About Me

I was born in Rydultowy, a small coal mining town in southern Poland. Growing up, my love for biology was ignited by simple chemistry experiments, observation of wild life, and basic unassisted research I performed as a teenager. Through this, I became fascinated by the complexity and meticulousness of all mechanisms operating in the cells of every living organism. As a high school student, I received an opportunity to join a research project at the University of Warsaw on snoRNA processing in yeast. It was here that I later obtained my Bachelors in biotechnology and chemistry, and finally my Masters in chemistry. Because of my interest in RNA metabolism and non-coding RNAs, I continued to work on projects related to RNA biochemistry until I graduated. In 2016, I joined Tao Pan’s lab at the University of Chicago and became involved in research on the cellular functions of the queuosine tRNA modification in humans. During the next five years, I would like to continue developing my skills as a young scientist and deepen my insight into molecular biology, especially RNA-related issues.

Since I’m ambitious and open to challenges, I’ve always been involved in diverse academic activities. In Warsaw and Chicago, I organized many scientific events and often volunteered in programs aiming to educate the public and motivate young people to fulfill their scientific goals. Besides science, music has always been an important part of my life – I play piano and sing. And I’m a big fan of penguins (the animals not the hockey team).
