The overarching goal of my research is to discover neural mechanisms that underlie sensory-evoked natural behaviors. Specifically, I am interested in characterizing neural mechanisms that link an animal’s behavioral response to its past experience and internal state. In the past I have used wireless neural recordings in freely jumping locusts and in-vivo voltammetric measurements of neuromodulator serotonin in weakly electric fish to address some of these questions. During my current postdoctoral studies I will be using two-photon calcium imaging in larval zebrafish to characterize neural substrates of habituation in the context of visually-evoked escape behaviors.
