Ben de Bivort

Research

I am broadly interested in the interplay between behavior, evolution, and genetics. For my PhD project, I am exploring how different evolutionary strategies may encode individuality in wild Drosophila thermal preference depending on geographic origin. My project involves a combination of field collections, behavioral assay engineering, and statistical modeling to answer questions about the origins of individuality in behavior. My other projects in the de Bivort lab look at the effects of enrichment on behavior variability and the genetic basis for variation in the tradeoff between offspring number and weight.
