I am interested in how micro-organisms use complex cellular systems to respond to changes in their internal and external environments. Prior to my time at Harvard, my DPhil project with Prof. Judith Armitage concentrated on investigating flagellar motor responses to changes in the ion-motive force which drives it. Currently my work in Prof Karine Gibbs’ group focuses on self recognition in the swarming bacterium Proteus mirabilis; more specifically, how the Ids self recognition complex causes changes in cell fate through widespread transcriptional and behavioural changes.
