Sam earned a Ph.D. Algorithms, Combinatorics, and Optimization. Her dissertation research focused on analyzing stochastic processes and modeling sparse graphs. As a post-doc, she is applying her background in probability theory and algorithms to computational challenges in biology. In particular, she is working on applying neural networks to improve homology search— the task of determining whether biological sequences are similar due to shared ancestry.
