I am interested in understanding evolution of organ development and specification. My current interests revolve around investigating the mechanisms of development of ovarioles and regulation of their number in Drosophila. I use a cell sorting and transcriptomic approach to study ovariole development and signaling pathways that influence it.

During my PhD I worked on the evolution and development of haltere in Drosophila in comparison to hind wing appendages in other insects. I primarily studied the role of Ultrabithorax (Ubx) in the development of wings in a silkmoth species (Lepidoptera), in comparison to species of other insect orders (Prasad & Tarikere et al, 2016).
