As an extension of his HarvardX for Allston program, Fundamentals of Neuroscience, David Cox spent last Friday at the Harvard Ed Portal with a roomful of cockroaches and children from the Charlesview Community Center. Cox’s giggle-inducing workshop introduced kids to the nervous system by pinning electrodes to detached cockroach legs and watching them dance to the rhythmic vibrations of various popular tunes. The Ed Portal plans to rerun this event for different local audiences this summer as well as integrate similar experiments into its mentoring program this fall.
