ODOR CODING IN PIRIFORM CORTEX

June 29th, 2012

"How does information encoded in neuronal spike trains guide sensory decisions? Naoshige Uchida and colleagues recorded neural ensemble activity in the anterior piriform cortex of rats performing an odor mixture categorization task and discovered a profound transformation in the dynamics of odor representation from the olfactory bulb to the cortex. These findings provide insight into the neural substrates for odor-guided decisions." - from Neuron
