Postdoc Navish Wadhwa (Berg and Garner Labs) Selected as an Intersections Science Fellows Symposium (ISFS) Associate

The Intersections Science Fellows Symposium (ISFS) has chosen research associate Navish Wadhwa of the Berg and Garner Labs as a 2021 ISFS associate. This year’s ISFS fellows and associates were chosen from a pool of over 390 applicants and will attend the symposium in early November.

The associates, along with the ISFS fellows, are selected for their research contributions as well as their commitment to improving diversity in life sciences. Both ISFS fellows and associates have the opportunity to attend the symposium. Associates present their research through pre-recorded flash talks, while fellows give longer presentations and meet with individual mentors. The initiative’s goal is to highlight the work of outstanding mid-to-late-stage postdocs, including those from backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in academic research.

“I feel very lucky to be included in this amazing group of scholars who are not only doing cutting-edge research but also making a positive impact on academic culture,” says Wadhwa. “More than anything, I am looking forward to connecting with the other Fellows and Associates who share my vision of a diverse and inclusive academy.”

ISFS attendees also gain access to a supportive network of colleagues and mentors and opportunities to connect with institutions that are hiring faculty. The initiative grew out of conversations between organizations such as the Yale Genetics Postdocs group and the Yale Black Postdoctoral Association and has grown to include participants from institutions across the country.

“The organizers of the symposium have put together a fantastic program of talks, workshops, and mentorship, which will be very helpful to those postdocs like me who are in the academic job market,” Wadhwa adds.

“I attended this Symposium last year and it was fantastic,” says MCB Scientific Director Polina Kehayova. “The fellows selection is quite competitive. I am very excited that Navish will be participating.”

Congratulations to Dr. Wadhwa! For more information on the symposium, check out their website here.
