The MCB Department is delighted to announce that MCB Assistant Professor Carolyn Elya has been selected as a 2025 Searle Scholar. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry, providing $300,000 in flexible funding over three years to support innovative, high-risk, high-reward research.
“We are thrilled that Carolyn’s exceptional scholarship is being recognized by this award,” says MCB Chair Rachelle Gaudet. “She is most deserving and will be a fantastic addition to the community of Searle Scholars.”
Established in 1980 and administered by the Kinship Foundation, the Searle Scholars Program partners with selected universities and research institutes to identify and support early-career scientists pursuing independent research careers. The program aims to foster groundbreaking work across a broad range of scientific disciplines.
“I’m very grateful that the Kinship Foundation values curiosity-driven, basic research, and I’m honored to be a part of the Searle Scholars community,” Carolyn says.
Professor Elya joins a distinguished group of MCB faculty who have received this honor, most recently Nick Bellono in 2019, Doeke Hekstra in 2018, and Ethan Garner in 2013.
