MCB and OEB faculty Hopi Hoekstra has been appointed C.Y. Chan Professor of Arts and Sciences. Chosen by the FAS Dean, the Professor of Arts and Sciences title celebrates faculty who have made notable contributions to teaching and research at the college.
“This professorship…is the highest honor recognizing scholarly achievement that the Faculty of Arts and Sciences can bestow upon one of its members,” FAS Dean and soon-to-be Harvard President Claudine Gay wrote in a letter to Hoekstra.
Hoekstra will serve a five year term as C.Y. Chan Professor of Arts and Sciences starting July 1st, 2023.
“This appointment was such a wonderful surprise,” Hoekstra says. “I am thankful for my lab members, past and present, with whom I have the pleasure to work and make some fun research discoveries along the way. And, I have been truly honored to teach Harvard first-year students, over the last decade, with the singular goal to get them excited about genetics, specifically and science, more generally.”
