The Faculty of Arts and Sciences has announced the appointment of five new Harvard College Professors, including Jeff Lichtman, the Jeremy R. Knowles Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
The Harvard College Professorship is a five-year appointment that recognizes excellence in undergraduate teaching. Since its establishment in 1997, the honor has celebrated faculty members whose teaching has had a profound impact on Harvard College students.
“Our department has always taken teaching seriously, and I am happy to be able to join the sizeable cadre of MCBers who have held this Professorship,” said Lichtman. “I love teaching, and it has been central to how I understand science. In fact, I suspect I may have gained more from my lectures than my students have!”
Lichtman joins a distinguished group of faculty connected to the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology who have previously received the honor, including Sean Eddy (2023), Andrew Murray (2021), Cassandra Extavour (2020, listed jointly in OEB and MCB), Hopi Hoekstra (2014, listed in OEB), Daniel Kahne (2012, listed in CCB), Douglas Melton (2008), Richard Losick (2000), and John Dowling (1999).
