Dulac Receives Award from Society for Neuroscience

The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) has named MCB faculty Catherine Dulac as a recipient of the 2019 Ralph W. Gerard Prize. The prize honors lifetime achievement in neuroscience and is the highest honor awarded by the SfN. Dulac and co-honoree Michael Greenberg of Harvard Medical School will be recognized with a ceremony at the annual SfN meeting, which attracts over 30,000 participants.

“I am deeply honored to be the recipient of this year Ralph W. Gerard Prize in Neuroscience and wish to express my gratitude to the Society of Neuroscience for recognizing the work of my lab,” Dulac says. “First and foremost, I want to acknowledge all present and former group members and the support of my colleagues in and out of Harvard that transformed our work into such an exciting scientific journey. It is also a special privilege to receive this award alongside my long-time colleague Michael Greenberg.”

News of Dulac’s award came as no surprise to MCB faculty and chair Venkatesh Murthy. “I am thrilled to learn that Catherine has won the Ralph W. Gerard Prize,” he says. “She has made ground-breaking discoveries in pheromone sensation and the neural basis of social behaviors. We are fortunate to have her in MCB and at Harvard.”

“As a colleague, I have had the pleasure and privilege of collaborating with her on several exciting projects and have been awed by her creativity and depth of scholarship,” Murthy adds. “Hearty congratulations to Catherine on this well-deserved award!”
